Pioneer in Laser Surgery and Academic Excellence
Professor Ernest Azzopardi's journey in the medical realm is nothing short of extraordinary.
His relentless pursuit of this super-specialization drove him to complete several prestigious
GMC-approved post-CCST fellowships in prominent locations across the UK, including
Swansea, London, Milan, and beyond, all prior to securing his inaugural NHS consultant
position.
Today, Professor Azzopardi dedicates his clinical practice exclusively to laser surgery, where he stands as a leading authority in both clinical and academic fields, both in reconstructiveand aesthetic domains. He is the current laser lead for the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, where he has been tasked with developing a UK wide framework for laser cpd, accreditation and certification. He regularly is sought after for second opinions internationally, with patients in 2022-2023 hailing from UK, Europe, China, Florida, Aukland, and the middle east. Prof Azzopardi is fluent in English, Maltese and Italian.
His academic credentials are no less impressive. In 2013, his PhD work was conferred
without corrections, and subsequently went on to be awarded several prestigious awards
including the Hunterian Professorship and medal, a distinguished accolade from the Royal
College of Surgeons in England, positioning him as a standout in the UK Surgical
Community. His exceptional work has also garnered recognition through awards such as the
James Syme Medal from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, the President's Medal
from BAAPS, the Jackson Award from the British Burns Association, and research funding
from Charities, regional, and EU funding.
He serves as faculty member in several academic institutions and is passionate about teaching
and training the next generation of leaders, including UCL London, Faculty of Medicine and
Surgery (Malta) and further afield. Professor Azzopardi actively advises Industry Leaders and
conducts masterclasses, lectures, small group teachings and seminars, both face to face, and
further afield by remote. His intellectual property is validated in the UK, Europe, and the
USA, underscoring his commitment to advancing the field.
When he is not zapping away Professor Azzopardi takes an active interest in travel, carpentry,
and the Arts. Professor Azzopardi is married to Dr Elayne Azzopardi, a paediatric speech
therapist and has two children.
